So how do you address a married woman?
I am MissBackpacker and I recently got married to the man I’ve known and been loving for almost six years now. We exchanged vows in a bar in Mandaluyong, two places that mean so much to us. We only invited a few friends to witness our special day as we couldn’t afford a big event, we just didn’t (and still don’t) have that kind of money.
He wore a white polo shirt we bought in Greenhills, a pair of walking shorts, and a pair of flops. I flaunted my dirty-white dress we got the day before the wedding, my cute headpiece, and Php-150 sandals. It was pretty casual.
We servedΒ kaldereta,Β chopsuey, fried chicken, and unlimited iced tea. They said everything tasted good. I just don’t know if they lied. Oh, Mel also prepared a few moulds of leche flan as his gift. We didn’t have giveaways or souvenirs, we can only give our guests our heartfelt thank yous.
It may not be the perfect wedding for most earthly-minded women there but to me, it’s more than what I could ask for. I didn’t have an entourage but I got a long list of friends who have been supporting and loving us, with or without the fancy wedding. I didn’t get to wear the type of dress I’ve been seeing in chick flicks but I just don’t care.
We both have aged. We now have more wrinkled skins. We both gained enormous weight. We no longer climb or hike that fast unlike how we used to scale mountains before. During lazy weekends, we SOMETIMES prefer to sleep and rest than go out and socialize with the world. Our goals have matured. He can now say, “Pare uwi na ako kasi naghihintay si Misis.“
Our perspectives of life may have changed but never will we cease exploring other places and conquering mountains. We still have loads of beaches we plan on visiting. We will continue drinking, getting wasted, and throwing up even if our small rented apartment gets crowded with friends we invited because we were too lazy to go out. He will still call me names and I will still make him do all the hard labor (cleaning of bathroom, cooking, etc.). Our future baby will still be named Margaja or Nalgene. We will forever be Palalabs and we’ll send you an invite to our Greek-inspired beach wedding later.
I am opting to use my husband’s last name. You can now address me as Mrs. Galang. But you know what? I am still the MissBackpacker you’ve all known.
Thanks to my super pretty and loving best friend, Mary, for all the photos! β₯

Sweet post. You guys look really cute! I know some people who spend so much on the wedding (as in major production), but fail to work on the marriage, which is the most important thing. Btw, I can relate to the weight gain and lazy weekends! Cheers to both of you π

Thanks Kara! I’m gonna buy you a beer when we meet. Great to know that someone from PTB loves beer as much as I do. π
