Meet the GALAngs
The Galangs are a family of four and are based in the Philippines.
The title of the blog, We the GALAngs, is a wordplay of Galang focusing on GALA, which means traveling around or well-traveled in the Filipino language.
Rowjie. The Tatay. He works as a Senior Specialist for a chemicals company. Rowjie (row-jee) is a fan of good documentaries, is on a low-carb diet, and practices intermittent fasting. He is the chef and mechanic of the family. Rowjie used to skateboard in his younger years.
Kaiz. The Nanay. The planner and organizer of the family, Kaiz (sounds like maze) works as an Operations Manager for a biotechnology company based in the US. You will usually see her with bold, bright hair color. She is the author of the travel blog Where Have You Been Lately?
River. The Kuya. River’s first name, Kymani (ki-man-ee), is an Eastern African word for adventurous traveler. True to his name, this curious grade-schooler loves the water and is always looking forward to his next water adventures. River is a sucker for fried chicken and lechon kawali.
Isla. The Bunso. Isla (eye-la) means island in Spanish and Scottish. Her second name Margaja is after a crater in Mt. Kanlaon, which her parents climbed in 2010. The rainbow baby of the family, Isla is independent, bubbly, and shows a fierce personality. She loves watching Cocomelon and Mother Goose Club.
The Galangs have been to several parts of the Philippines and Southeast Asia, including Vietnam, Cambodia, Thailand, Malaysia, and Singapore. Their favorite destinations are Palawan, Phuket, and Bali.
When not on the road, the family loves to watch movies at home during the weekends or dine out in search of a restaurant that serves good ramen.
